Now in destination Marathon, FL

We spent a few days getting to Marathon in the middle of the Florida keys. We had to anchor out in Boot Key for a few days before we were able to move to a mooring where we expect to be for a month with the possibility of a few short side trips. Marathon City Marina is a busy place with 226 moorings for transient boats. Right now there are not many boats leaving because the weather is not favorable for a trip across the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas. The waiting list of boats that are anchored in the harbor and waiting for a mooring assignment is getting longer by the day. This is a great place to be as there are lots of activities Yoga ,skateboarding, Rollerblade Hockey, tennis, shuffelboard etc. There was a big traditional Keys Music festival last weekend with great music and there is an art show this weekend.
We have met new cruisers here as well as reacquainted with cruisers we met along the way and renewed freindships with former slip mates at NEB in RI.
We will update our adventures here and advise of our plans for the return trip up North as it develops.

  1. Mom and Dad...Mission accomplished! Sounds like you have a great spot to hang for awhile. Hopefully it is warmer than the rest of your "tropical winter". I'll be in touch soon. I think I owe you guys a call back...

  2. Yeah, you made it! We loved it there. We ate at the $5 lunch spots frequently. Also, check out the Chinese food buffet for lunch. Not bad for the price.

Anyway, hope you enjoy yourselves. If you see our friends Cameron and Leighia from Tranquility tell her we said hi. (But I think they left to go to the Miami boat show.) You should consider having them install a wind generator or solar panels while you're there. Cameron does great work!

  3. Dave and Barbara,
Congratulations on making it to your destination. If time permits, take a side trip to Key West. It's worth it. Hopefully your weather has significantly improved by now. We stayed in Marathon until the beginning of April before we headed north. It's fun to follow Spring all the way up the coast. Enjoy!
